needlessness complex

Worse than inferiority complex, ~ not only makes the patient feel less valuable than others, it makes her/him feel totally useless.
Though clinical pathology does not describe thoroughly ~, partially because it is a relatively new syndrome, more and more people account on the problem.
The symptoms are various but there is a common cornerstone: imaginary conditions of being ignored, feeling hopeless and purposeless in life, depressed and feeling empty as if a hollow was dug in the stomach. Why exactly the stomach is still unresolved but accounts typically coincide in that symptom.
One could easily deduce the cause of this problem not having been described until recent times. Just like panic desease, these modern problems cannot develop under circumstances when one's mind is busy struggling for the everyday needs. Ironically enough, in that sense, a hard life is more convenient than one with less difficulties.

Needlessness complex is typical in modern welfare societies. Weak or missing social relationships, patterns of alienation, continuous questioning of traditional values and religion all contribute to the complex.
Typical patients live alone, have a less challenging job or are unemployed, do not pursue hobbies, and have no close relatives or friends.

The natural human self-defense mechanisms try to overcome the problem in:
a. the patient is building relationships, joining clubs, groups of some similarity to her/himself, in extreme cases military or political organizations
b. the patient is trying to endulge in some meaningful activities

In literature, we can find the complex described in two opposite situations. Douglas Adams's Zaphod Beeblebrox avoids a trap of the feeling of extreme needlessness thanks to a secret agent who replaces the trap with one that represents extreme importantness. This is an ironic representation of ~.
The other, dark depiction in Goten Valiz's 'Cause no one did need me', is about M. a young man who drifts from a harmless character towards becoming a murderer purely because of his quest for being accepted and needed.

The latter can be read here: link
(it is not available in other languages but Hun.)

The complex is assumed to be meme-infectious and its proliferation is estimated to be in the two-digit magnitude.
